With Hurricane Idalia forecast to bring potentially damaging winds and rain to North Carolina this week, Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey offered advice to residents whose homes and property could be vulnerable to storm damage. He also assured North Carolinians that the insurance industry is in excellent shape to be prepared in the event of storm damage.
Tornadoes are nature's most violent storms. They form from powerful thunderstorms. Tornadoes appear as rotating funnel clouds that stretch from a storm to the ground with swirling winds that can reach 300 miles per hour. Damage paths can be more than a mile wide and 50 miles long.
