North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kody H. Kinsley will get both his annual flu shot and his updated COVID-19 booster shot at Russell's Pharmacy in Durham Thursday afternoon to protect himself and to encourage North Carolinians to get vaccinated this year against flu and COVID-19. Five flu deaths in adults have been reported so far this season, and the first pediatric flu death was reported last week.
Children and teens 5 and older can now receive the updated COVID-19 booster, specifically made to protect against the latest COVID-19 variants. The new booster is becoming available in North Carolina following the Food and Drug Administration’s emergency use authorization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services will host a live fireside chat and tele-town hall on Wednesday, June 1, from 6-7 p.m. to discuss COVID-19 recovery, ways to prevent and overcome long-term complications, and available treatments, and to hear firsthand accounts from North Carolinians who experienced varying severity of COVID-19 symptoms.
Today, Governor Roy Cooper signed a State of Emergency in preparation for impacts from Potential Tropical Cyclone Sixteen. “It is important for North Carolinians to prepare for potential impacts from the coming storm,” said Governor Cooper. “The storm's path has been difficult to predict and we want to ensure that farmers, first responders and utility crews have the tools necessary to prepare for severe weather."
