Artistic Statement
Antonio Alanís is a Mexican American artist raised in Durham, North Carolina. Her interest in working in non-profit organizations and her teaching experience allow her to use the visual arts to build bridges of understanding between diverse cultures. He uses his Mexican-American background, educational background, and passion for the visual arts to raise cultural awareness of Latin Americans in the South. The intersection between Latin American art and activism motivates him to use the arts as a vehicle to strengthen his Hispanic / Latinx community in North Carolina.
He seeks to strengthen the connection between people of all origins; Antonio uses the visual arts to explore themes such as “Belonging to a place,” “Growing up as a Latino,” “Home,” and “Identity” in the multicultural South of the United States. As an artist using acrylic and oil paint, she enjoys portraying Latinx / Latino characters who celebrate the cultural richness, beauty, and humanity of their community through painting and graphic designs. As a visual storyteller, you like to use the arts as a way to start conversations focused on cultural similarities rather than differences between groups of people.

Antonio Alanís is an artist and educator living in Durham, North Carolina. His immigrant background, personal history, and education inspired him to explore topics such as social justice, identity, and immigration in North Carolina. He believes that the visual arts are an integral part of promoting Hispanic / Latinx cultural awareness in the United States.
