(Colombia, 1970). Pilar Vélez is an economist, writer and cultural promoter. President of the Hispanic Heritage Literature Organization/Milibrohispano, director of the literary magazine Poetas y Escritores Miami and director of FILCOL. Since his arrival in Miami, he has actively participated in Hispanic cultural development, through different programs that promote the dissemination of Hispanic culture, encourage reading and writing in the community and awareness for the preservation of the environment.

She is a normalista teacher of the National Normal of Young Ladies of Cali. Graduated in Economics from the Universidad Autónoma de Occidente (Cali, Colombia), with a Master in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University (Miami, Florida) and a Master in Creative Writing from the University of Salamanca, Spain. He obtained a certification in Human Resources Administration from Florida International University (FIU) and has specialized studies in the areas of marketing and business.

Pilar Vélez’s works show her sensitivity towards social causes, her concern for education and environmental conservation, and her exhortation to a society where respect for human rights prevails. Her novel El Expreso del Sol, Letter to my dreams for planet Earth, A Gift for Laura and several of her children’s books have been selected for the curriculum of various schools and colleges in Colombia and the United States.

She has been awarded at the Purple Dragonfly, at the Readers’ Favorite and eight times at the International Latino Book Awards (ILBA) in the genres of novel, children’s and youth literature and poetry. He won First Place in the International Narrative Contest of the Institute of Peruvian Culture (Miami, 2012), among other recognitions for his works. His work has been reviewed in specialized literature publications, including the ANLE magazine, Hybrido and Hispania, and has also been published in several poetry and narrative anthologies inside and outside the United States.

She is a Collaborating Member of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language (ANLE), member of Sigma Beta Delta, International Honor Society for business, management and administration, Numerary Academician of Social Sciences of the International Academy of Social Sciences and Number Member of the Academy National Patriotic Antonio Nariño, Palm Beach Chapter, Florida.

Among the recognitions for his work, the following stand out: Order of Merit for Democracy in the Degree of Commander, a decoration awarded by the Senate of the Republic of Colombia; the Alfonso López Michelsen National Award for Communication and Journalism (Colombia, 2017), and in Isabela, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, the Pioneer Association of Writers, Poets, Painters and Cultural Promoters of the Galapagos Islands «APEPCI-GALÁPAGOS» dedicated the first ecological library. She is the creator of the International Celebration of the Hispanic Book Month, president of the XII Marjory Stoneman Douglas International Meeting of Writers (United States, 2016), and life member of the International Society of Latino Authors (ISLA).
