210 ANIVERSARIO DE LA INDEPENDENCIA DE MEXICO “VIVA MEXICO”.
Leticia Alvarez is a Mexican artist; she studied Art at the University of Monterrey (UDEM), and got a Master degree in Education through Art, from the University of Nuevo León. She got married and moved to the United States, where she got a scholarship at the University of Virginia Tech, and obtained a Master Degree in Latin American Studies, History and Literature. She has been painting for over 25 years and participated in numerous exhibits in Mexico and the United States. Through her career she has explored diverse Mexican motifs such as Mexican toys, folk art, landscapes, to represent nostalgia and cultural traditions as well as political and social troubles for Latinos in the United States. She also likes to paint portraits of powerful woman, Frida Kahlo is often observed in her work. Leticia is an active member of the Latino Art community and has collaborated with the COR Museum in the last four years with the Day of the Dead Altars, she also made a mural about the Monarch Butterfly migration in the Museum of Life and Science. She has worked with the NCMA with Coco Fiesta Fantastica and making small retablos during the Family Day in Frida Kahlo exhibit. She loves to share her cultural heritage and strongly believes in art education, she has been teaching art classes in her studio for six years and worked with Artspace during summer camps teaching the class Mexican Art Traditions.
The artist lives in Raleigh, with her husband David Elizondo and her four kids.
