The center served 150 immigrants and their families through low-cost immigration consultations and more.
DURHAM, N.C. – Today, World Relief Durham celebrates the anniversary of the opening of its Immigration Legal Services (ILS) Center to provide low-cost immigration consultations to immigrants and refugees in the Durham community. Since opening its doors on June 17, 2019, World Relief Durham’s ILS center has served 150 immigrants and their family members in the Triangle, representing them in family reunification cases, green card applications, DACA renewals and more.
“It’s been such a privilege to stand with immigrants in our community over the past year and let them know we’re on their side,” said Kjerstin Lewis, Immigration Legal Services Program Manager for World Relief Durham. “We’ve seen a great need for our services in the Triangle area, and it’s been an honor to help answer questions about immigration law for our new neighbors. It’s really special to have a firsthand look into the many different stories represented by the immigrants in our city, and we are excited to continue our work to serve and advocate for our immigrant neighbors.”
Certified by the Department of Justice, the center offers immigrants the opportunity to ask questions regarding their eligibility for citizenship, DACA, family petitions, lawful permanent residence and victim-based immigration services. Before starting a case, all individuals schedule a meeting with World Relief Durham’s legal representative to assess their eligibility.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, World Relief has shifted to offer virtual appointments for its ILS clients. Outside of Immigration Legal Services, World Relief Durham also offers refugee resettlement services and refugee and immigrant youth services to the Durham community.
